Cass County paid tribute to the soldiers and sailors of the Civil War with a monument erected in 1907-8 by H.C. Gilbert Post No. 47 G.A.R. Its commissioners were Fred E. Lee, president; J. Edwards, first vice president; H. Goddings, second vice president; H.S. McMaster, secretary; and Willis M. Farr, treasurer. The monument honors service in the war of 1861-1865.
