A hand dug well served Marshfield on the square from the late 1860s to 1926. It was 42 feet deep, reached solid rock at 11 feet, and had 20 feet of water. It was uncovered and restored as a historical site in October 1987 by the Webster County Veterans Memorial Association and the Historical Society. A fountain was erected in commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on November 11, 1987 by Webster County Veterans Memorial Association Inc.
