On 9-11-01, American Airlines Flight 77 departed Washington, DC, for Los Angeles, CA, terrorists took control of the flight, it crashed into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and the Pentagon’s E-Ring collapsed. In New York City, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175 departed Boston, MA, for Los Angeles, CA, terrorists took control of both flights, Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center, Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower, and both towers later collapsed. In Pennsylvania, United Airlines Flight 93 departed Newark, NJ, for San Francisco, CA, terrorists took control of the plane, and a group of flight crew and passengers attempted to regain control before it crashed into a field near Shanksville, preventing the terrorists from reaching their intended target. The lives lost, the families affected, the first responders, and those who later suffered or died from injuries or illness connected to that day are honored, and the passengers and crew of Flight 93 are remembered for unity, courage, and defiance in the face of adversity.
