Built in 1910 and used until the mid 1970's, the Cotton Belt Depot became the hub of commerce for Coryell County. When the route was abandoned and the building was to be torn down, the citizens of Gatesville responded. Through the Chamber of Commerce, a major renovation project was financed by donations from over 400 citizens and businesses. Renovation was completed in December, 1983. The depot continued to serve Gatesville as the Chamber of Commerce Office and as a reminder of the community's link to the past.
