Designed by prominent local architect Hix McCanless, this Classical Revival building was constructed in 1915 to house city offices and the Ennis police and fire departments. McCanless, a Tennessee native who lived from 1868 to 1938, was Ennis's leading designer and builder during the first part of the 20th century and also served as a surveyor and city engineer. The interior once included a large auditorium and still contains the original jail, while the exterior features a pedimented entrance and brick pilasters.
