The final episode of the Sullivan-Clinton Campaign was the advance of Col. Van Cortland's Brigade up the Canisteo River to this area, two miles beyond the Tory-Indian town of Painted Post, which Capt. Simon Spaulding's Riflemen burned on September 28, 1779.
