Kintersburg Covered Bridge spans Crooked Creek in Rayne Township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, as a rare example of 19th-century covered bridge engineering. Built in 1877, the 62-foot road bridge is one of only four covered bridges still standing in the county. Its greatest distinction is its Howe truss, an uncommon design for covered bridges that appears nowhere else among Indiana County’s surviving examples. Only five covered bridges in Pennsylvania are known to use this form, making Kintersburg unusual even in a state closely linked with covered-bridge construction. Its significance was recognized with listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
