Rock County honors its citizens who served as soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen and laid down their lives in all quarters of the earth so that other people might be freed from oppression. It also pays humble tribute to the sacrifices of Rock County prisoners of war Arlow Wahlert, Howard R. Iveland, Dale Smith, Lloyd Hanson, George Pederson, Darwin G. Nelson, Edward McCardell, Arvin Dorman, George Lund, Raymond Ormseth, Curtis Benson, Merle Larson, Frank Lain, Carl Bendrich, Walter Klutman, and Leonard O. Larsen. It further remembers Rock County soldiers whose earthly resting place is only known to God: Marvin Delapp, Henry Roos, Dennis L. Toms, Howard Clausen, and Philip Armstrong.
