George Henry Carswell was a graduate of Mercer University, a member of the General Assembly in both the House and Senate, president of the Senate, a trustee of the Georgia School of Technology, author of the Elders-Carswell School Law, a champion of eleemosynary institutions, a benefactor of Confederate veterans and their families, and Secretary of State. His neighbors and friends bore grateful testimony to the life and worth of a good and able man who served well his state and generation.
