Industry
The Beehive was built in the early 1700s, when this area was still part of a British colony. It once served as a small industrial center with a cooper's shop, a tavern, a general store, and worker housing supporting local grist, wool, and timber mills. The cooper's shop included a giant walk-in fireplace. Stone ruins remain on the site, including wall sections, openings, and other surviving features, and restoration efforts are ongoing. Each October, the Elk Creeks Preservation Society holds an Apple Butter festival to support restoration of the Beehive.
