Lennox Brethorst-Burma American Legion Post 174 and Auxiliary dedicated this memorial on Memorial Day 2003 to the men and women of the armed forces who performed their patriotic duty so America’s freedoms could be enjoyed. It gives eternal thanks to those who made the supreme sacrifice in defense of freedom and the nation, naming the dead from World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War. It also invokes Abraham Lincoln’s call to finish the work of war, bind up the nation’s wounds, care for those who bore the battle and for their widows and orphans, and cherish a just and lasting peace among all nations, and asks those who pass beneath the flag to remember the sacrifice of life and treasure that has kept it aloft, unstained and beautiful against the sky.
