Uriah Alley was born November 18, 1847, and moved to Cameron as a child. After lying about his age, he enlisted in the 6th WV Volunteer Infantry in September 1864. He was captured at New Creek, WV, in November and remained a prisoner of war until February 1865. After the war, he worked in Cameron. Known as "Uncle Duck," he was the state's last living Civil War veteran when he died on October 26, 1947, at age 99.
