Overpeck County Park is an 811-acre regional park in Bergen County, New Jersey, spanning Leonia, Palisades Park, Ridgefield Park, and Teaneck along Overpeck Creek. Long before the park existed, the area was used by the Ashkineshacky Native Americans around present-day Leonia for seasonal activities, shell collecting for wampum, and bath festivals. The modern park emerged after a 1954 proposal by A. Thornton Bishop, with land assembled over decades from municipal contributions and later sales. After years of neglect, dumping, and legal disputes over poor management, major redevelopment began in 2003. Opened in expanded form in 2010, it became a reclaimed shared landscape for recreation, athletics, and environmental use.
