Indian Key Historic State Park preserves the site of Indian Key, a mid-19th-century town in the Florida Keys that later became an uninhabited ghost town. On a small island near Hawk Channel and the Overseas Highway, the park is valued less as a developed recreation area than as a historic landscape where the outlines of the former community still remain. Archaeological work has uncovered foundations of old buildings, helping reveal the form of the vanished settlement. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, it preserves a rare island ghost town and remains a popular stop in the Keys.
