Johannes Isaac Blauvelt House
History
1
The Johannes Isaac Blauvelt House, a Dutch farmhouse on the northwest corner of the Tappan Patent, contains late 18th- and early 19th-century construction features. Johannes Isaac Blauvelt, who lived from 1743 to 1828, was a charter member of the Greenbush Church. His son David, also called Dauvum, began the county's first tobacco business here. Abraham M. Blauvelt, known as Gunsmith, repaired watches and guns here and rented boats on the Hackensack River behind the house. The Blauvelt family occupied the premises for 135 years.
