James W. Dillon founded Dillon and was regarded as the father of Dillon County. He was known for firm convictions, gentle manners, and generous impulses, and for loving and believing in his fellow man. A loyal citizen and public benefactor, he gave freely of the fruits of a rich and resourceful mind for the spiritual, intellectual, and material advancement of the town and county he loved so well.
