Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site preserves the South Carolina landscape where Camden became a crucial British supply post after the fall of Charleston. From the spring of 1780 to the spring of 1781, the town helped Britain hold the backcountry and control routes toward Charleston and Savannah, and it served as a garrison during the Battle of Camden and the Battle of Hobkirk’s Hill. Though the main Battle of Camden was fought north of town, Camden itself was heavily fortified and central to the campaign. Today the site includes reconstructed buildings, restored houses, military works, and exhibits that preserve its central role in the Revolution’s southern theater.
