French Creek Wildlife Area is a 3,506-acre protected tract in Wisconsin managed by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Assembled beginning in 1947, it was created to increase wildfowl production and provide hunting opportunities after land once cultivated for wire grass, used in rugs and mats, shifted to conservation. The area now contains wetlands, shallow open water, and upland cover, with sedge meadows as the most common landscape and oaks and tamaracks among its notable trees. It supports deer, turkey, and other wildfowl, includes two natural areas, and continues to serve both habitat management and hunting, including pheasant restocking.
