Established by John E. Weer in 1885-87, Weer was an early village with a post office from 1894 to 1906, three general stores, a school, two doctors, a drug store, and nearly 100 residents. Weer served as postmaster and farmed, and he also ran a saw mill, cotton gin, grist mill, and store. On this site stood W.J. "Doc" Darnell's drug store and doctor's office from 1902 to 1907.
