The 416th Bombardment Group (L) served in the European Theater from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. Flying the A26 Invader, it was the first group in the world to do so, and flying the A20 Havoc, it was the first 9th Air Force group in the ETO. Its squadrons were the 668th, 669th, headquarters, 670th, and 671st, and its support units included the 4th Service Group, 79th Station Complement, 199th Medical Detachment, Red Cross, 21st Weather, and 1297th Military Police. The group is remembered with its airmen and support personnel, whose supreme sacrifices aided in preserving freedom throughout the world.
