Rockport State Recreation Area is a 4,237-acre Michigan state park on Lake Huron north of Alpena, spanning Alpena and Presque Isle counties. Established in 2012 as Michigan’s 100th state park, it is distinguished by a limestone landscape that includes striking formations, Devonian fossils, sinkholes, and an abandoned quarry of about 300 acres. Its protected deep-water harbor and large boat launch make it an important access point to the lake. The area also serves as an ecological corridor along the Lake Huron Flyway and helps gauge shoreline health. Offshore shipwrecks, heritage routes, and its 2016 dark sky preserve designation add geological, maritime, and recreational importance.
