The Hawarden, Iowa Veterans Memorial is dedicated to all Hawarden area veterans and was dedicated on August 31, 2003, with committee members Harlan Van Egdom, Dallas Huebner, Roger Johnson, Jim Kinney, Armando Ortiz, and Jim Skogman. It bears the inscription “Because of them We are Here May God always Bless America” and marks those killed in action with an asterisk. The memorial records Hawarden-area service members from the Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Lebanon, the Gulf, and Peace Time service, listing hundreds of individual names across its walls.
