Cranberry Wilderness is a 47,815-acre protected mountain backcountry in the Monongahela National Forest of southeastern West Virginia, mostly in Pocahontas County and partly in Webster County. Named for nearby Cranberry landmarks, it lies in the Yew Mountains and is drained by the Williams and Cranberry rivers. Established in 1983 as the forest's largest wilderness area, it was later expanded by adding former backcountry land between those rivers, protecting trout-stream tributaries and connecting them to an older trail system. Also designated as a black bear sanctuary, the area includes extensive trails, hosted national Rainbow Gatherings in 1980 and 2005, and contains unworked bituminous coal deposits.
