Old College on the Tusculum University campus in Tusculum, Tennessee, became the presidential museum and library for Andrew Johnson after a 1993 restoration returned the building to its original appearance and adapted it for the Andrew Johnson Collection and related programs. The building itself dates to the college’s 1840 expansion, when enrollment reached 70 students and a replacement was needed for the second Academy Building. Local citizens, including Johnson, helped fund the project. Completed in October 1841, Old College first housed classrooms, a chapel, offices, and a library, then remained in academic and campus use until 1887 in roles such as faculty housing, classroom space, and a dormitory.
