Fort Pierre Choteau Trading Post was a chief landmark of the fur-trading period on the Upper Missouri River between the Platte and the Yellowstone from 1822 to 1864. It was founded in 1832 by the American Fur Company of Saint Louis, Missouri, and was dismantled in 1859. In September 1930, the tablet was bestowed by Dr. Raymond A. Burnside of Des Moines, Iowa.
