An EF5 tornado passed through this community on April 27, 2011, at approximately 3:40 p.m. as part of one of the worst storm systems in U.S. history and the worst natural disaster ever in Alabama. The storm stayed on the ground for 132.1 miles from Mississippi across Alabama and into Tennessee. It reached its peak in the Oak Grove Community of Franklin County, Alabama, with winds over 210 miles per hour and a path 1.25 miles wide. Lives were lost, others survived, and churches and citizens helped comfort and restore the community.
