Bangs established its public schools after the town was founded on the route of the Santa Fe Railroad, which deeded land to the city for a school. The first school building, a two-room frame structure on the south side of the railroad tracks, was completed in 1892, with Miss Clemie King as the first teacher and an enrollment of 35 pupils. In 1903, a new 2-story stone structure on the north side of the tracks replaced the first building. Over the years, the school system grew, added facilities, and consolidated with nine other area schools.
