Walnut Canyon once held a busy community where families hunted, planted, and harvested with the seasons, and where children were born, grew up, and raised children of their own. Those people were neither the first nor the last to use and value what the canyon offers, but they left behind the greatest legacy. When they moved on, they did not abandon their responsibility to care for this ancestral village and those left behind. Descendants revisited and still revisit the sites, prayers are still offered, and plants are still gathered for ritual use. Walnut Canyon was and is a place that resonates with life, and the places where people stopped and built homes are sacred places where the spirits of those who could not travel remain.
