Canelo Ranger Station, also known as Canelo Work Station, is a historic U.S. Forest Service complex in the ghost town of Canelo in southern Arizona’s Coronado National Forest. Built in the early 1930s during the Depression-era expansion of federal land management, it began with an adobe ranger residence in 1932 and was completed in 1933 as a compact five-building administrative site. Forest Service architects designed its adobe buildings in American Craftsman and Bungalow styles, and the CCC later added retaining walls, road work, landscaping, and corrals. Little changed since the 1930s, it remains significant as a well-preserved Forest Service complex and as evidence of the agency’s shift toward active resource management.
