Mount Jurupa is the highest point in the Jurupa Mountains of northwestern Riverside County, California, near the Riverside-San Bernardino county line. A trail climbs to its summit, which overlooks Inland Empire cities such as Riverside, Fontana, San Bernardino, and Moreno Valley. At the mountain’s base, a small canyon holds the Jurupa Mountains Discovery Center, a nonprofit educational site with nature trails, gardens, and an Earth Science Museum. The mountain’s name reaches back to the Jurupa land grant of September 28, 1838, and earlier to a rancho associated with Mission San Gabriel; Jarupa was probably a Serrano or Gabrielino Shoshonean name.
