The Sperry House was built in 1893 on A. H. Sperry's farm. With exterior brick, gables, wood molding, stained glass windows, and carved interior oak woodwork, it was proclaimed by the Willmar Argus as one of the finest residences in the city. County pioneer Albert Henry Sperry (1840-1917) was a farmer, a soldier during the 1862 Indian war, and a businessman. An early official of Willmar village, he developed the surrounding neighborhood known as Sperryville and gave land to the city for what is now Sperry Park. The house remained in family ownership until 1970, was restored to the time of its building by the Historical Society, and opened to the public in 1976 as a museum to its era.
