Presidio la Bahia del Espíritu Santo de Zúñiga was first founded on Garcitas Creek near Espiritu Santo Bay in April 1722, moved to Mission Valley in Victoria County in 1726, and from there moved in 1749 to its final location, which was the site of the massacre of Fannin's men on Palm Sunday, March 27, 1836. It was restored in 1966 through the generosity of Mrs. Thomas O'Connor under the authority of Bishop M.S. Garriga and Bishop Thos. J. Drury.
