Gold Hill Hotel
History
2
The Gold Hill Hotel is the original stone and brick building erected on the site of the first recorded claim on what became the Comstock Lode on May 1, 1859. As one of the earliest hotels, it housed miners and notable people and offered lodging, a tavern, and a barbershop. In an era when early transient shelter was often taken in dugouts and tents, and some of those were called hotels, boarding and rooming houses grew with the population. This building was regarded as the first edifice in Nevada worthy of the name hotel.
