Mount Hilliard was a nineteenth-century cultural center on the ridge dividing the coastal plain from the Black Belt, originally in Pike County, Alabama, and in Bullock County after 1866. Its cemetery, established in the 1830s for all faiths, lay between Mount Hilliard Methodist Episcopal Church, organized in 1835 with its building erected in 1856, and the Masonic Lodge–Mount Hilliard School Building of 1854. In 1865, women of the area saved their homes from destruction by Wilson Raiders by showing their husbands' Masonic symbols. Veterans of the nation's wars since 1812 are buried there.
