The Milwaukee Company laid these railroad tracks in August 1878 and built the depot just north of here on the other side of the tracks, helping establish the foundation for the town now known as Emmetsburg. Work began again on September 1, 1901, to add a one thousand square foot addition to the depot. After 107 years of service, the depot was demolished in March 1985. Over its lifetime, it served the area by transporting mail, raw materials, and passengers in times of peace and turmoil, and during World War I, World War II, and the Korean Conflict it carried young men and women away from their families and homes to aid their country.
