Built circa 1780 by Jeduthan Harper, this house was associated with a signer of the Halifax Resolves of April 12, 1776, a lieutenant colonel in the Chatham County Minute Men, and a man appointed by the North Carolina Provincial Congress to supervise cannon ball manufacturing for the American Revolution. Harper later served as Clerk of Court, Register of Deeds, and Representative, and his granddaughter married future governor John Motley Morehead.
