Joseph H. Beeson established this trading post in the 1880's by converting the old Haley Inn into a business that provided essential goods and services to a community extending from Sedge Garden to Teague Town and from Bunker Hill to Kernersville. The trading post and general store became the center of community activity, serving as a polling place, a place for entertainment, a communication center, and the only place in the area where people could meet and socialize. Joseph Beeson operated it until his death in 1917, when it was sold to R.T. Joyce and Baxter Whicker. The facility continued to be used as a general store and service station for several decades.
