Woodleaf Hotel
History
The Woodleaf Hotel was built in 1858 by Joseph Wood using brick made on the site from native clay. Its graceful architectural style is unique in this region of California. The hotel was a favorite stage stop for wealthy ranchers, and its luxuriously furnished rooms hosted mining and lumber men, President Ulysses S. Grant, entertainer Lotta Crabtree, and Black Bart during the 1800s. It was entered in the Register of National Historic Places on April 9, 1975.
