Irish and German laborers built the Paw Paw Tunnel and traveled this portion of the access road to reach labor housing and work camps near the vertical shafts on top of the mountain. The Tunnel Hill Trail is two miles long, steep, and strenuous, with Potomac River vistas, natural features, and a connection to Green Ridge State Forest at the summit.
