Chicopee honored its dead from the Civil War, naming soldiers from Massachusetts, New York, and Connecticut units who were killed in action, died of wounds, died in hospitals, died in prison, or died of disease contracted in service. The dead included men of the 1st Massachusetts Cavalry, 5th New York Cavalry, 25th New York Cavalry, 22nd Massachusetts Infantry, 32nd Massachusetts Infantry, 37th Massachusetts Infantry, 34th Massachusetts Infantry, 14th Connecticut Infantry, 27th Connecticut Infantry, 46th Massachusetts Infantry, 57th Massachusetts Infantry, 140th New York Infantry, and 2nd Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. Their deaths occurred at places including Rapidan Station, Ashland Station, Aldie, Emory Hospital, Harewood Hospital, Andersonville, Tolopotomy, Washington D.C., Spottsylvania Court House, Fisher's Hill, Lynchburg, the Wilderness, Cedar Creek, Antietam, and Newbern, from 1862 to 1867.
