The 3.7 miles from Dutzow to Marthasville passes through a large gap in the Missouri River bluffs, with the Katy Trail running along the base of the bluffs and a wide agricultural floodplain of former islands—Boeuf, Miller, and Watkins—lying to the left. Nearby is the Daniel Boone Monument at Boone's former gravesite. Offered Spanish land grants, the Boone family moved from Kentucky to what is now Missouri in 1799. Daniel Boone was buried here in 1820, and his wife, Rebecca, had died in 1813. Their bodies were removed to Frankfurt, Kentucky, in 1845, though local folklore suggests Kentucky received the wrong bodies. Other Boone family members and slaves are buried at the Boone monument. Shortly before Marthasville, the route crosses Tuque Creek on a 190-foot-long through-truss bridge, one of eight bridges the Katy Railroad rebuilt between New Franklin and Machens after abandoning its Moberly-Hannibal line in 1923 and relying entirely on the Missouri River route to reach St. Louis and Chicago.
