Bathsheba Bigler Smith, born one mile upstream on May 3, 1822, was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1837. She moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, where she was a founding member of the Relief Society, the LDS Church charitable women's organization, and later served as its general president from 1901 to 1910. She moved to Utah in 1849, pressed for women's suffrage, and died in 1910.
