J.E. Wright, D.D.S., opened the first permanent dental office in the Indian Territory at Savanna in 1885. Before settling there, he practiced as an itinerant dentist at Tishomingo Academy, Stonewall, Johnsonville, and White Bead Hill. He moved to South McAlester in 1887 and was a co-founder of the Indian Territory Dental Assn.
