Built around 1860 on land owned by Daniel Carlisle, Rodgers School educated Pike County youths until consolidation closed it in 1935. In 1895 Robert Henry Lee Rodgers conveyed it to trustees for use as a school. Between 1923 and 1935, H. M. Curry directed the school despite short terms, limited facilities, and scarce funds. Although it issued neither report cards nor diplomas, Curry and fellow instructor Sue Edwards Carter successfully prepared more than twenty graduates for college entry during the school’s golden age. Rodgers School continues to serve as a community center and inspiration to future generations.
