Apollo Command Module Boilerplate S/N 1207 is a metal mockup built with the same external size, weight, and center of gravity as a flight production model so spacecraft design and function could be evaluated without the expense of using a more detailed model. This boilerplate was used at Patrick AFB to train Navy and Air Force personnel to recover Apollo capsules from the ocean. It was 10 feet, 7 inches high, 12 feet, 10 inches wide, and weighed 9,000 pounds. It was later displayed in Lake County, Florida, at the Ocala Discovery Science Center, where it was painted white and sat outdoors for 36 years. During restoration at Holloman AFB, the original black NASA lettering was found under 36 years of white paint.
