The Second Cavalry Division and the Sixth Corps of the Army of the Potomac camped around Manchester on June 30, 1863. Major General John Sedgwick's headquarters was located on nearby Old Fort School House Road. On the night of July 1, the corps left Manchester and entered battle at Gettysburg the next day.
