Selmier State Forest in Indiana began as a private gift to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources from Mrs. Frank Selmier in honor of her husband, Frank Selmier. The forest grew from Frank Selmier’s deep interest in the outdoors and from the many acres he planted between 1921 and 1934 with black locust, pine, black walnut, tulip-tree, and sycamore. Those plantings helped shape the land before it became a protected public forest. Today it offers six short trails and allows fishing and hunting, but it has no public restrooms, campsites, or boat ramps.
