Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge is a 187-acre protected coastal area in Noyack, New York, established on December 27, 1954, through a donation by Elizabeth Alexandra Morton. Set largely on a peninsula between Noyack Bay and Little Peconic Bay, it preserves an unusual concentration of habitats, including beaches, tidal flats, marshes, ponds, grasslands, shrubland, maritime oak forest, and red cedar. This varied landscape makes the refuge an important haven for Long Island wildlife, especially migrating shorebirds, raptors, and songbirds. Its beach supports nesting piping plovers and terns, while nearby waters provide critical habitat for juvenile Kemp's ridley sea turtles and sometimes loggerheads.
