East Harbor State Park is a public recreation area on Lake Erie about eight miles northwest of Sandusky, Ohio, combining a beach, campground, marina, and wetland wildlife preserve. A narrow sand strip extends into the lake, separating Middle Harbor from open water. This shoreline was once a two-mile beach until a 1972 storm washed away much of it, leaving a smaller swimming beach at the park’s north end. Four segmented offshore breakwaters help protect the remaining sand. The lakefront setting defines the park’s use for swimming, boating, fishing, trail activity, picnicking, hunting, disc golf, and nature viewing in its wetlands.
