Three Island Crossing State Park in Glenns Ferry, Idaho, preserves one of the best-known Snake River fords on the Oregon Trail, where emigrants crossed by way of three islands. The ford remained in use until 1869, when Gus Glenn established a ferry about 2 miles upstream, ending the crossing’s long practical role in overland travel and tying the site to the later history of Glenns Ferry. The land was deeded by the city to the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation in 1968, and the park opened in 1971. Today it blends Oregon Trail interpretation with recreation and wildlife watching along the river corridor.
